Dr. Latarsha Carithers is Chief of the Training, Mentored Research, and Diversity Section within the Scientific Review Branch of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. She oversees the review of a wide range of grant mechanisms such as institutional training grants and career development awards. Previously, Latarsha was a Scientific Review Officer at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and a Program Officer at the National Cancer Institute. She completed a Science and Technology Policy Fellowship at the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine). Latarsha also earned a B.S. in biology from Spelman College and a Ph.D. in pathobiology and molecular medicine from Columbia University.
