WHAT INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT AND WHERE WE COLLECT IT
We use the Website to provide you with information about Girls Action Network and other services you might enjoy. As described below, in some places on the Website, we might ask you to provide us with your personal information. Otherwise, the Website might collect other types of information automatically.
We collect personal information from you in the following ways:
When You Register an Account: You may create an account, but only if you are at least thirteen years old. Having an account makes it easier for you to share your information with us and for us to share information about our programs with you. When you create an account, we will ask you to provide us with personal information that identifies you or can be used to contact you. This information may include: (i) your name, street address, telephone number and email address, or other information we can use to contact you; (ii) your username or user password, or other unique identifiers you provide; or (iii) your date of birth, age, school, or grade level, or other information about you. We may also ask you for information about the Girls Action Network programs in which you have participated.
If you have not yet turned thirteen, you may not create an account on the Website. You can, however, still visit the Website or participate in some our programs. If you are thirteen years old or younger, please ask your parent or guardian to contact us, and we would be glad to help them and you.
When You Sign Up for Newsletters and Emails: We may offer free newsletters and email updates to you and others. We send newsletters and emails to share information about Girls Action Network and people or groups with whom we work, to let you know about issues that may be of interest to you, and to update you about the Website. To sign you up for these newsletters, we will ask for your email address. When we send emails to you, we may also use technology that lets us see whether you have opened the e-mails and/or clicked on links in the e-mails. You can unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions provided in the newsletter or email, updating your preferences through the Website, or by contacting us at info@girlsactionnetwork.org.
When You Sign Up for SMS (text) Messaging: We send out notification of events, programs, as well as transactional messages related to purchases or account changes. You may opt-out of these messages by replying “STOP” to any of our messages. You may restart the service by texting “Unstop” or “Start” to our number. Your information, opt-in data, and consent are NEVER shared with any third party.
When You Sign Up for Events: We may offer you the opportunity to sign up for different events through the website. Those events may be hosted by us, or we may be collecting registration information on behalf of third parties in connection with their events. If you choose to register for the event, we will ask you for your personal information. Registration for individual events may be governed by different or additional policies. We will tell you before you register whether any other policies apply. The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
When You Participate in Surveys or Polls: From time-to-time we may ask you to participate in a survey or poll. You do not have to participate in these surveys or polls. If you do participate, we may ask you for your personal information.
When You Send Us an Email: If you send us an email, it will contain your personal information, such as your name and email address. We may save a copy of that email.
In Connection with Partner Offers: From time to time, we may ask you for information in connection with a commercial offer from a partner. You may choose to participate in these offers.
Separately from your own personal information, we also collect information about how many people visit our Website and what those people do when they visit. This information helps us to provide better information and services. We use tools like Google Analytics to help us collect this information. Our analytics tools may use different kinds of tracking technology to collect information about your activities on the Website, such as how you arrived at the Website, the kind of browser you use to visit the Website, your IP address, how often you visit the Website, and which pages you visit. This information is not necessarily associated with you personally. We collect and use such information together with that of other visitors to the Website. The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We also may use “cookies” to track visitors to the Website. A cookie is a unique, random number that is stored in the browser on your computer. The cookie does not identify you personally, but only the computer that you use to visit the Website. Cookies automatically identify your browser to the Website whenever you use your computer to visit the Website. If you have created an account on the Website, we may use cookies to make it easier for you to use the Website. We do not currently use cookies to personalize advertising that we show you, but we may choose to do this if we feel it is beneficial in the future. We also may use information that we collect from you and other visitors to the Website through cookies to improve the Website.
If you have created an account on the Website, we may combine information about your visits to the Website with other information that you have given us, so that it is easier for us to provide you with information about the programs we offer. If you do not want to allow cookies to collect information about you, your browser should contain an option that allows you to disable or delete cookie data at any time. If you disable the use of cookies, however, some areas of the Website may not provide you with a personalized experience.
The Website contains links to the websites of other organizations. Those organizations are separate from us and we do not control how they operate their websites or handle your personal information. These other websites collect information from you independently and that collection of information will be governed by their own published privacy policies. If you visit the website of another organization, please read its privacy policy before providing any personal information.
HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT
We use the personal information you provide to us for different purposes, depending on when we collect it. We may use your email address, for example, to contact you about the Website or your participation in a program or service; to answer your questions; to let you know if you have won an award; or to send you information on behalf of other people or groups that we work with. We also may use your personal information to customize the content you see on the Website or to monitor compliance with our Terms of Service. We use personal information to improve the Website and to help us run our programs and services.
We may also develop relationships with other partner institutions, including schools and other businesses. If our supporters, sponsors or partners offer you a product or service, you may choose to submit your personal information to them. If you do so, they will have your information. We have no control over that information. Again, we urge you to review those organizations’ privacy policies before participating in any activity on their websites.
HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT
We do not sell your personal information. We also will not share your personal information other than in the following situations:
Service Providers: We may need to share your personal information with other people or businesses that help us operate the Website or perform services for us. These include the businesses that host the Website or that help us in sending out newsletters or other emails. Although these businesses may have access to your personal information for these limited purposes, they may not use your information for their own purposes.
Third Party Events: When you register with us for an event for a third party, your information will be shared with that third party, which may have its own privacy policies. If so, we will endeavor to tell you which policies might apply and where to find them.
Partner Organizations: You may allow us to share your personal and academic information with partner institutions with which we have relationships for the purpose of providing you with opportunities that they provide. If you allow us to share your information, we will require either that those partners treat the data in accordance with our privacy policy, or that they treat it in accordance with their privacy policy, in a manner that is no less protective than our treatment of data under our policy.
Partner Offers: If you have provided us with information in connection with an offer from a commercial provider or other partner, we will send that information to them.
Administrative or Legal Process: Sometimes we may need to share your personal information to others, even without telling you, to comply with applicable law or if requested by law enforcement agencies, to protect our rights, or to protect the rights of other users of this Website.
Third-Party Offers: On the Website, you may find links that will allow you to participate in special offers or programs from other organizations. If you choose to click on a link, you will be taken to a different website run by that organization, not us. If you choose to participate in that offer or otherwise provide your personal information on that website, you will not be sharing that information with us. In that case, we do not control what that organization does with your information.
In addition to these situations, we may share information that we collect from many website visitors, including you, with partner organizations, sponsors, schools and funders. This could include information about the number of visitors to the Website and which pages are the most popular. This information does not specifically identify you.
All of the above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
SECURITY
We put in place reasonable security measures to keep your personal information safe from unauthorized access or disclosure. When you register for an account, register for an event or sign up for a newsletter, the data will be sent to GAN securely. Only persons who need access to your personal information to do their jobs are given such access. We review our security policies periodically and revise them when necessary.
CORRECTING, UPDATING AND DELETING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
You can correct, update or ask us to delete your personal information. You can do this by making changes to your account profile or by emailing us at info@girlsactionnetwork.org. We may not be able to correct, update or delete all of your personal information that we maintain, such as our own records of your participation in our programs or information stored in back-up copies of our systems. We may also not be able to correct, update or delete personal information over which we no longer have any control, such as information that was provided to other organizations before your request. If you no longer want to receive an email or newsletter from us, click “unsubscribe” on the link at the bottom of the email or newsletter.
